Mosaic Concrete Bases

Students worked together to create both flat and highly dimensional tiles and create the patterns to surround the concrete bases.

Inspiration: Nature and Fantastical Worlds

Class work: Students made ceramic tiles with themes of Bug, Leaf and Flower, Dragon and Friends, Ocean with Sea Urchins and Seaweed, Octopus, and Sun and Seasons. Students worked together to create both flat and highly dimensional tiles and create the patterns to surround the concrete bases. Once the tiles were completed, they were installed around the base of the lamp posts.

  • Starting in 2019 Professor Roald Hartman’s Sculpture Classes explored the surface of the concrete bases on lamp posts. You will see three of them driving up Witherly Lane. There are four that all have elements of the ocean and life within and around it. Their themes are Bug, Leaf and Flower Theme, Dragon and Friends Theme, Ocean Theme with Sea Urchins, Design with Seaweed, Octopus, Sun and Guardians of the Ceramic Garden.
