Folk Art of India
Students were introduced to traditional Mithila and Madhubani art and the work of contemporary artist, Dr. Rani Jha and made two totem poles, three murals and ceramic birds.
Inspiration: Mithila and Madhubani Art, Dr. Rani Jha
Nationality: India
Movement: Mithila and Madhubani Art
Class work: While making the ceramic pieces to go around lamp posts students were inspired by the colors and patterns and wanted to do more by creating a mural. Two Indian students guided the class in honoring the traditions and art. There was some initial group planning with the totem pieces but students did most of their work individually. The mural brought on new challenges of creating a single-design incorporating several voices and still honoring the work of the Folk Art of India.
